Basic computer maintenance is very simple and designed to help you avoid any vile things from happening.

Really bad is the TOTAL loss of your precious data. (That you have spent an untold amount of time working on!) Bad is the loss of digital or scanned pictures of family, friends, vacations and any other related data. Bad is a computer that does not respond or lets you down when you really, really need it! Like last minute changes to that business proposal you worked on until 3am.

If you stop and think, a computer is a machine; what makes it so special is all the human things we input to it. You store all your personal bits, like the pictures, the data files maybe you even do accounting or online banking. You are the person who makes the computer personal; hence YOU are the one who needs to take care of it. That's where the term Personal Computer comes from!

Clean out your temporary files, that's why they are called temp files! Uninstall unused programs, akin to clothes you do not wear anymore! Empty the Recycle Bin - you will be amazed at how many files you have there! Keep your e-mail clean - delete as you go, you can't keep everything!
